Upcoming Event Announcement: Building the New Economy - Feb 23, 2009

The the Center for American Progress Action Fund and John Podesta are hosting a forum entitled “National Clean Energy Project: Building the New Economy” on Monday, February 23, 2009 in Washington, DC. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is Honorary Chair. The forum will bring together a select group of high-level leaders from government, business, labor, and the non-profit world to guide the transformation of our nation’s energy infrastructure.

Confirmed attendees include President William Jefferson Clinton, Vice President Al Gore, Energy Secretary Steven Chu, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Senator Jeff Bingaman (D-NM), Representative Ed Markey (D-MA), energy executive T. Boone Pickens, and leaders from government, business, labor, and the non-profit communities.

The forum will focus on modernizing and expanding our energy infrastructure (including the electricity grid), rapidly increasing transmission capacity for renewable energy, and reducing our nation’s dependence on oil by examining short- and long-term solutions to replace oil with clean domestic resources to fuel vehicles and trucks, including natural gas.

This event builds on the August 2008 “National Clean Energy Summit” sponsored by Senator Reid, CAPAF, and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The distinguished participants at the summit concluded that inadequate access to transmission was one of the most significant barriers to widespread development of renewable energy.

This forum will take the next step by identifying solutions that can improve access to the grid for clean renewable energy and accelerate adoption of energy efficient and distributed generation technologies. Taking place on the heels of the expected passage of the economic recovery package, we believe the forum comes at a unique moment in history, helping to provide solutions to vexing questions around the availability of “clean” electricity and fuels.

This event will be webstreamed.
